Early Vote

How and when you can exercise your EARLY VOTE

IN MOBILITY - If you are a registered voter in Portugal, you can exercise your right to vote in anticipation, on the seventh day before election day (Sunday), at a polling station of your choice. There will be an early voting station in each municipality of the continent and the Autonomous Regions. To do so, you must submit your request to vote in early, using the Electronic Platform or by post to the Electoral Administration of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, between the 14th and 10th day prior to election day.

ILL AND HOSPITALISED VOTERS - If you are ill and hospitalised in a hospital and are therefore unable to attend the polling station on election day, you may apply to vote in anticipation of the election via the Electronic Platform or by post to the electoral administration of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by the 20th day before election day.

IMPRISONED VOTERS - If you are detained in a prison and are therefore unable to attend the polling station on election day, you can apply to vote in anticipation, via the Electronic Platform or by post to the Electoral Administration of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Affairs until the 20th day before election day.

VOTERS DEPLACED ABROAD - If you are registered in the Portuguese electoral register in Portugal and are displaced abroad, due to your professional duties or treatment, and for this reason you are unable to go to the polling station on election day, you can vote at diplomatic or consular representations or at external delegations of Portuguese public institutions, previously defined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, between the 12th and 10th day prior to election day.

VOTERS IN OBLIGATORY CONFINEMENT AND RESIDENTS IN RESIDENTIAL STRUCTURES - These two exceptional and temporary early voting regimes, established through OrganicLaw no. 3/2020, of 11 November amended by Organic Law no. 4/2021, only applied in the years 2021 and 2022.
